Expanding Yorktown’s People Strategy: Kathy Short Promoted to Senior Vice President, Workforce Management

Huntsville, Ala. – Yorktown Systems Group, Inc. (Yorktown) is proud to announce the promotion of Kathy Short to Senior Vice President of Workforce Management. Since joining Yorktown in 2016, Short has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s people strategy and culture.

Starting as Director of Human Resources, Short quickly advanced to Vice President of People Operations, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to the employee experience. In her new role, she will continue to lead strategic workforce initiatives, mentor emerging leaders, and drive innovation across all facets of the company.

As Senior Vice President of Workforce Management, Short will serve in a key senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing strategies to optimize labor utilization and efficiency across Yorktown’s diverse operations.

This role demands a blend of strategic thinking, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of workforce management principles and technology. Short will ensure workforce strategies are aligned with broader organizational goals, driving continuous improvement and enhancing overall business outcomes. She will also continue to champion a workforce culture that prioritizes employee well-being, engagement, and professional growth — creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to contribute their best.

Her expanded responsibilities now include leadership of all workforce-related functions at Yorktown, and its wholly owned subsidiary, The Unconventional, LLC, encompassing People Operations/Human Resources, Travel, Security, and Marketing. This integrated structure reflects Yorktown’s commitment to a unified and people-centered approach, aligning internal culture, organizational communication, and brand consistency to support a high-performing, mission-ready workforce. Under her leadership, Yorktown continues to enhance employee experience and drive operational excellence across all workforce touchpoints.

Prior to joining Yorktown, she held key HR roles across government contracting, commercial communications, and natural gas distribution sectors.
